Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer is to be the go-to expert for all topics relating to additive manufacturing preprocessing, postprocessing and inspection.  In this role they will have direct input into the design process to ensure that the most efficient additive manufacturing process is developed, and the highest quality is achieved.

  • Has a deep passion for adopting additive manufacturing as a production process in aerospace.
  • Maintains a leading edge understanding of the manufacturing and quality processes and functions required in the design and manufacturing of additively manufactured aerospace components. 
  • Uses data-based decision-making tools along with a strong intuition to make clear choices.
  • Creates processes and procedures to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and deploys manufacturing process documents (MPD’s) for key manufacturing processes, and quality operating procedures (QOP’s) for testing and inspection processes.
  • Develops master routings for additively manufactured components
  • Performs risk assessments using PFMEA and manages associated risks in a team-based setting with the application of process improvements and control planning and manages the PFMEA documents as a ‘living process’.
  • Performs measurement systems analysis (MSA) and applies variation management to key characteristics and critical process parameters.
  • Provides technical guidance, process training, and coordinates process certification of process technicians, inspectors, and lab technicians.
  • Identifies and drive improvements in internal defect, scrap and rework activity, customer returns, and supplier rejections using proven quality improvement tools and methodologies such as Kaizen and Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Plans first article inspection processes.
  • Provides material review disposition of rejection products and materials.
  • Specifies, justifies and coordinates procurement of capital assets that improve manufacturing processes, inspection and testing efficiency, and employee productivity.
  • Assures compliance to AS9100 (and Nadcap when required) via support of the internal audit program, by preparing for customer and regulatory audits, and hosting audit activities.
  • Trains and mentors employees on effective corrective action and root cause analysis tools.
  • Partners with design engineering, program management, supply chain, and operations to support new product development, new product industrialization and sustaining engineering activities.
  • Reports progress and status of projects on a timely basis to leadership.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BS Degree in an Engineering discipline required with a minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with AS9100 and Nadcap certified manufacturing processes.
  • ASQ Quality Engineer and/or SME Manufacturing Engineer Certification highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with mechanical inspection processes, CMM and PCMM, blueprint reading, GD&T and interpretation of material and process procedures and specifications.
