Job Description

Bulking Line Procedure/description:

Recyclable paint is received at the facility in bins, boxes and loose pack drums. Until it is ready to be processed, it is warehoused in various locations throughout the facility.

Bulking personnel will manually unload bins, boxes or loose pack drums and place containers of paint to be sorted on the material conveyor. Paint is commonly received in quarts, 1 gallon and 5-gallon containers. The use of the conveyor allows several containers to be loaded and opened at once, increasing the speed of the paint bulking operation. Speed plays a major role in the daily operation.

Containers on the conveyor are opened manually and then inspected. If the container does not meet quality standards it is processed as a reject. All paint received and processed must be inspected to insure the highest

Paint that meets the company standards is bulked according to color (scrapped out of the can). All good paints are segregated by color and strained through a metal lath screen. Paint needs to be examined to ensure that it is bulked in to the appropriate color container. One mistake can cause the entire base tint to change.

Once the bulking employee is certain the correct color tote has been selected, paint is emptied through the screen into the appropriate container. You must empty as much material from the cans as reasonable possible. This is done using rubber and metal spatulas.
