Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:    Die Handler transports dies between storage and use, loads dies onto forging press, maintains die storage, and performs other general labor as required.  Die handler will use a forklift to move dies around. This position reports to the Shift Lead, Department Supervisor and/or Department Manager.


  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Drive and operate a forklift.
  • Transport dies between storage and presses.
  • Clean and grease dies.
  • Perform tooling set-up as required for specified forge procedure.
  • Load and unload dies from forging presses.
  • Assist in die set-ups.
  • Return dies to correct locations in die storage.
  • Maintain computerized die inventory.
  • Maintain die storage.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Participate in departments 5s program.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Takes strong ownership of work in progress and communicates with co-workers, Leads, Supervisors and Managers (as needed)
  • Comply with all APP, Inc. safety rules and company policies
  • Demonstrates a firm commitment to achieving APP’s Key Results
  • Report any equipment or facility defect(s) to Lead / Supervisor / Manager.
  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported per APP’s safety policy.


  • This position has no Supervisory responsibilities


Education and/or Experience

  • 1-2 years of High School.
  • Forklift certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous forging experience is preferred, but not required.
  • On-the-job training is provided for this position.
  • 3 months related manufacturing/production experience.
  • Able to read and understand instructions.
  • Blue print knowledge (a plus)
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person (U.S. Person = a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).

Language Skills

  • English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend)
  • Communicate with co-workers, supervisor, and QC personnel.

  • Stand, walk, as well as talk and hear.
  • Will frequently manipulate parts weighing up to 30 lbs. and move more than 30 lbs. with the aid of material handling equipment and/or assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
  • Requires manual dexterity and continued use of both hands, use of hand tools, power tools and related equipment.
  • Position requires applying up to 50lbs hand-to-part force as necessary to stabilize part(s) during cutting or machining process.
  • Have good hand/eye coordination
  • Capable of repetitive bending and twisting
  • Have good eyesight
  • Be able to stand on feet 80% of the time during a work schedule

  • Employee is occasionally exposed to moving forklifts, working plant machinery and power tools.
  • Work environment is indoors. Workstation is located in an industrial manufacturing plant.
  • Exposure to sharp aluminum shavings and burr chips.
  • Moderate-to-high vibration by industrial machinery and power tools.
  • Temperature in work area can exceed 90F throughout the work year. 
  • Noise level in the work environment usually varies from moderate to high.
