Job Description

We are hiring a trucking Trucking Dispatch Supervisor!

Classification: Exempt

Salary Range: Depending on Experience

Hours: Mid-shift Monday- Friday (12p.m. to 9p.m.) with constant Saturday work.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing high-volume dispatching of trucking orders which includes, dispatching and scheduling truck loads based on customer’s delivery expectations
  • Develop efficient delivery routes and maintain constant contact with drivers to ensure on time deliveries
  • Cultivate strong relationships with drivers and customers to meet delivery timelines
  • Monitor the location of fleet using system tracking and review driver’s logs/DVIRs daily to ensure compliance and detect discrepancies
  • Provide professional and exceptional customer service to drivers, clients, management, and respond to emails in a timely and efficient fashion to clients, brokers, and other that receive drayage services. Must be able to provide updates to customers, drivers, and managers on progress and/or updates.
  • Collaborate on weekly department meetings to improve the workflow and efficiency of the transportation department
  • Enter all appropriate container order information into Trinium system and enter
  • Maintain dispatch system accuracy and in live status; ensure completed work is updated and cleared properly in the system, including but not limited to proper dates and destinations.
  • customer orders in dispatch software
  • Regularly report on the status of containers and LFD
  • Manage equipment including chassis and containers
  • Make same day load acceptance decisions based on current driver capacity
  • Contact steamship lines to verify export bookings or empty containers returns
  • In charge of resolving any issues that may affect the schedule times for pick or delivery

These problems normally include mechanical problems with trucks, delays due to traffic or weather conditions, changes requested by the customer regarding times or locations

  • Report all vehicle and employee accidents and follow up as necessary
  • Work closely with night dispatcher and management to coordinate a smooth workflow
  • Provide support and coverage/cross-training to other departments

Management/Leasing People Responsibilities

  • Labor planning and recruitment, assisting in interviewing, selecting, orienting, delegating, training employees, and following up on work results
  • Responsible for coaching, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results and providing feedback
  • Setting SMART goals and objectives, analyzing and indentifying opportunities, implementing process to drive improvement, and monitoring progress and supervising performance

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years: Experience in logistics or in the transportation industry preferred
  • MUST have Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach truck/drayage dispatch operating experience
  • Knowledge of applicable DOT safety regulations preferred but not required and understanding of transportation equipment/terminology.
  • Ability to calculate time and distance of geographic locations.
  • Must speak, read, and write English and Spanish

Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum of high school diploma
  • Typing Speed of 45 WPM and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships and ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Must be organized and logical, willing to adapt quickly to changing policies and procedures
  • Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively
  • Able to efficiently solve problems

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has supervisory responsibilities. Must be able to schedule, monitor work results.
