Job Description

Volt has an opening for a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the development, hardware integration, testing, and technical documentation of components and interfaces unmanned undersea vehicles (UUV’s) and payloads. with one of our major Clients in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities: 

  • Design and development of the following system capabilities for use in a maritime environment: autonomy, vehicle control, propulsion, navigation, obstacle avoidance, sensing, information assurance, data relay, mission planning, and command and control.
  • Design, analysis and development of electrical and electronic systems
  • Design, analysis and development of cable and connector assemblies
  • Design, analysis, and development of power systems
  • Design and specification of underwater cable assembly components based on stated operational/functional needs.
  • Design, analysis, and development of control systems, including signal processing and filtering, system logic development, and integration
  • Design, analysis, and development of sensor packages
  • Design, analysis and testing of anti-tamper devices
  • Design, configuration, and programming of microprocessors
  • Development of system wiring diagrams
  • Integration and assembly of electro-mechanical systems
  • Test and evaluation of maritime surveillance systems, including development of test plans and test reports.
  • Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development

Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
  • 2 years of experience as an electrical engineer in support of maritime technology, unmanned systems technology or electric vehicle technology
  • 2years of hands-on experience with embedded systems, digital signal processors, RF systems, communication theory, FPGAs, or microcontrollers.
  • 2 years of experience with communication systems implementation or design involving either RF (line of site or over the horizon), Acoustic communications or optical communications.
  • 1 year of experience with networking including the TCP/IP stack, OSI model and configuration of networking in Linux and Windows
  • 1 year of experience with performing basic configuration and troubleshooting tasks in linux via the command line. Expertise with development tools such as MATLAB, SIMULINK, Xilinx and Altera and proficiency with computer languages such as C, C++, and JAVA and Python
  • 2 years of experience in design, simulation development and analysis and testing of analog circuits
  • 2 years of experience with brushless electric motors and drives system as used in modern electric vehicles.
  • 1 year of experience with lithium batteries and battery management technology as well as hybrid powertrains (gas, electric or hydrogen fuel cell.
  • 2 years of experience with maritime vehicles/environments (esp. underwater) and/or marine electrical systems, including field testing.
  • Possesses effective written and oral communication skills
