PCB Designer -Mechanical Design 


Volt is seeking a talented electro-mechanical Design/Drafter to join its Design & Drafting department tasked with developing state-of-the-art oscillators for demanding applications. An ideal candidate will possess stellar CAD skills in both electrical layout systems and mechanical design of assemblies with an ability to work on both topics in a fast-paced aerospace environment.


  • Develop and draft PCB layouts for complex, multi-layer printed circuit boards (using OrCAD software) with guidance from Electrical Engineers.
  • Component placement, trace routing, analysis, verification, and related work on new and existing printed circuit board designs
  • Prepare fabrication drawings, manufacturing data and Gerber files necessary for procurement of stencils and circuit boards from suppliers
  • Layout hybrid substrates (using AutoCAD) and prepare assembly drawings
  • Work with engineering staff to design mechanical assemblies and packages in SolidWorks
  • Produce assembly drawings, parts lists, and bills of material and interface with production in multiple software packages
  • Revise existing designs and assembly drawings and route documents for approval in MQ1 Document Management System.


  • 4+ years' experience with OrCAD PCB Designer Professional or similar state of the art PCB design tools and methodology
  • 4+ years expert proficiency AutoCAD in 2D designs
  • 4+ years expert proficiency in 3D solid modeling design software such as SolidWorks
  • Experience working with multilevel bills of material
  • Proficient utilization of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Social skills in dealing with fellow coworkers and 3rd parties
  • Attention to detail in record-keeping

Other Desirable Skills (Not Required)

  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering
  • Substantial experience laying out RF circuits in PCBs or hybrid substrates.
  • Experience with finite element analysis based simulations for mechanical or thermal studies
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards for PCB design
  • Prior experience working with OrCAD EE PSpice
  • Experience in the aerospace field and familiarity with documentation requirements in AS9100 or ISO 9001.
  • Familiarity with advanced tools in Office365 such as PowerAutomate, PowerApps, SharePoint
  • Certifications such as CSWP, CSWE-S or Cadence Training
