Volt has an opportunity for you to become part of a prestigious team of professionals. We are seeking an Engine Development Engineer to work onsite at our client’s facility in Waterloo, IA. This is a contingent position expected to last 1 year.   

What You’ll Do

John Deere Power Systems in Waterloo, IA is seeking a Design/Development Engineer to support advanced powertrain electrification research and development. In this position, you will:

  • Work with advanced engine engineering team at John Deere, internal Partners, and Suppliers to assess and advance engine technology according to John Deere’s technology development process.
  • Plan electrification component and engine test work and direct day-to-day testing in the component and diesel engine test labs.  Virtual component modeling and testing on HIL systems.
  • Preliminary algorithm development and calibrations for electrified powertrain subsystems and systems.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources and prepare reports and presentations that explain and communicate results.
  • Communicate across a range of stakeholders within and outside the Advanced Engine group including PV&V, Base Engine teams, ECU controls group, and suppliers.  Facilitate and coordinate hardware requests and assignments.
  • Compile and furnish necessary information (engineering direction, design analyses) to support designer with prototype designs and fabrication of prototype hardware.
  • Facilitate required multi-discipline meetings, record and publish meeting minutes, maintain schedules, and work closely with affected stake holders. 

What It Takes

We need an excellent communicator, both verbal and written who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment.  Ideally you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Technology.

Required Skills, Knowledge, & Relevant Work Experience:

  • Senior Engineering experience obtained from projects, internships or practical work experience.
  • Knowledge in engineering principles, theory and practice as well as product knowledge.
  • Technical analytical skills.

Strong Candidate May Also Have:

  • General understanding of Engineering Product Delivery Process and Project Management Skills.
  • Diesel engine knowledge and experience including:
    • Basic understanding of diesel engine controls, software, calibrations.
    • Experience with diesel engine performance modeling and analysis.
    • Matlab Simulink and/or GT Power suite modeling knowledge and skills.
  • Electrification knowledge and experience including electric power generation, storage, consumption, and conversion.
