Field Service Engineer II – 6 months – Chicago, IL

Volt Workforce Solutions is seeking a Field Service Engineer II for our client located in Chicago, IL for a 6 month temp-to perm contract.  Our client is a global 3rd party onsite maintenance provider, specializing in corrective and preventative maintenance field service programs — as well as rolling out on installation, integration and product upgrades for manufacturers across multiple industries.  Specifically, this role is in Medical Device, for someone familiar with Lasik and cataract equipment who will service metro-Chicago area hospitals. This role will perform product installation, preventative maintenance, and corrective maintenance (repairs) services on medical equipment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides multi-step troubleshooting support on assigned service calls.
  2. Participates in the creation of technical bulletins and service procedures.
  3. Actively involved in continuous improvement
  4. Participates in an on call rotation to respond to urgent service calls outside of normal business hours.
  5. May have lead responsibilities for one or more field support persons.
  6. Assist in parts shipments as needed

Required Technical Competencies:

  1. Ability to troubleshoot to the FRU level
  2. Experience servicing electro-mechanical products
  3. Experience with Lasik and cataract equipment a plus
  4. Experience with optical products a plus
  5. Experience with servicing products with complicated wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components
  6. Familiar with the use of common service tools including:  vacuum/pressure meter, frequency counter, and digital multimeter.

Education and Experience

  1. Associates or Technical degree required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree preferred, or a minimum of 4 years related experience is required.
  3. Experience in healthcare technology and system deployment & delivery, or equivalent preferred.
  4. Must pass a background check and drug screen and have reliable transporation.
  5. Must be comfortable working in a hospital setting; this role does not have interaction with Covid-19 patients or personnel.
