Lab Assistant – 6 months – Lisle, IL

Volt Workforce Solutions is looking for a Lab Assistant for a 6 month contact with our client who is a leading global supplier of advanced electronic components and solutions. Do you have some experience in a test lab and chemistry related experience?  Are you a problem solver and like working with your hands? 

The Lab Assistant will provide testing support for material, product development, validation and quality activities. Work closely with Engineering and other technicians to provide testing support in a timely manner to provide analysis and test results so that projects are completed as scheduled and objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs mounting, sectioning, polishing and photographic/dimensional analysis of epoxy mounted specimens.
  • Experience with cross-sectioning to characterize materials, perform a failure analysis and expose an internal structure of a printed circuit board or an electronic component package.
  • Understanding of XRF analytical techniques for measuring precious metal plating thickness.
  • MFG-Coupon Cleaning & Weighing per EIA 364TP65 and IEC60069-2-60. 
  • Nitric acid porosity testing per EIA-364-53. 
  • Identify/interpret product defects (tin whisker, plating peel, PCB deformation, sample defects, etc.) utilizing microscopes, visual inspection and micro-sectioning analysis equipment.
  • Operating laboratory equipment such as band saw, grinders, sanders, cut-off wheels, polisher, metallurgical mounting presses, optical microscopes, imaging software, x-ray fluorescence and hardness testers.
  • Prepares samples for test and assemble test fixtures according to Client methods and Best Practices.
  • Work closely with lab staff to improve sample preparation and testing procedures, demonstrating an ability to work independently and in a collaborative setting.

Requirements:

  • Two (2) years of college training in a technical field or 3 or more years of hands on materials testing experience in a laboratory environment.  Chemistry related experience would be beneficial. 
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
