Job Description

Volt is looking for a Metallurgical Analyst who is open to relocation to central Illinois. The Metallurgical Analyst is part of a team that will be responsible for:

  • Metallography
  • Microstructure ratings and photos
  • Mechanical testing
  • Hardness testing of ferrous casting, steel, and forged components
  • Qualify purchase-finished, field failures, and internally produced products
  • Documentation and record keeping skills
  • Ability to read and use micrometers and calipers, as well as be familiar with tensile testing

The employee will primarily work in-the metallography group in the Metallurgical Laboratory. The primary testing focus for this position is microstructure reading, rating, and photography.  In addition, there will be:

  • Hardness testing (contour, surface and microhardness)
  • Tensile, and charpy impact testing with mounting and polishing preparation responsibility.
  • Communication with all levels of employees found in a professional lab environment, including supervisors and engineers.

  • Individuals must be responsible, team orientated, self-motivated, and possess good time management skills.
  • Individuals need to be detail orientated, dedicated to upholding quality standards, and adaptable to an ever-changing work environment.
  • Excellent work ethic, initiative, and a positive attitude are required.
  • Good communication, teamwork skills, and the ability to support a high velocity-manufacturing environment are critical.
  • Individual must have basic computer skills including MSWord, Excel, and ability to learn shop SPC system.
  • Flexibility to working alternative shifts, weekends, and overtime is also a requirement.
  • Individual must possess a high school degree; college degree is preferred.
  • Exposure to metallurgy or materials science concepts and ISO 9001/17025 is highly desirable. Individuals should have experience interpreting engineering drawings and following written audit guidelines.
