Job Description

Volt has partnered with a great manufacturing company in Goleta CA. We are in search of a Buyer/Purchaser to work with the Purchasing Manager to perform a variety of procurement functions, involved in the acquisition of materials and services; and provides support services to the Purchasing Department.

Position is a Perm/Direct Hire Opportunity with great Benefits. Salary depends on experience, however preferable range is $60k-$70k salaried role. Schedule is M-F.

Purchasing duties;

  • Require the exercising of some independent judgment and decision making.
  • Prepares purchase orders using the computerized system, and places orders,  the purchasing of parts and materials, goods and services.
  • Analyzes the requirements of commodities, including specification requirements preferred suppliers and dates commodities are needed.
  • Obtains price quotes and compares quotes with the specifications.
  • Negotiates the lowest cost for commodities.
  • Assures that purchase contracts comply with government and customer
  • requirements.
  • Works on changes to drawings and specifications, and follow up with suppliers to revise and amend purchase orders.
  • Communicates with suppliers by mail, telephone and e-mail to expedite and resolve problems and to obtain required material certifications, test reports and product specifications.
  • Develops sources of supply.
  • Maintains electronic records and prepares reports of order status.
  • May provide instruction and work direction to staff assisting Purchasing activities.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite 

An AA degree in business administration or related field; or a combination of education, training and experience sufficient to perform the role. 

Training and Experience:
2-4 years of experience as a Buyer, preferably in a manufacturing environment and
involving the acquisition of shop and manufacturing parts and materials.

Knowledge of:
Purchasing principles, procedures and terminology; methods of invoicing including shipping and handling charges, discounts and taxes; laws, rules and regulations affecting  purchasing operations; sources of supplies and services. 

Prepare requests for proposal and purchase order specifications clearly and concisely; learn the requirements of parts and material specifications; read engineering drawings; analyze quotes and exercise judgment in determining acceptable price.
