Job Description

VOLT IS HIRING a QA Supervisor. This is a Direct Hire position.

Salary/Wage: $65K + Benefits

Relevant Work Experience:   5-8 Years experience in the food industry, specifically in pistachios/almonds helpful

Education Level:  4 year degree in related field

Experienced in: SQF is a MUST. Able to obtain SQF practitioner within 6 months of employment. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation, Food Safety, SQF, BRC and HACCP principles

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Every year, usually from late August to mid-October, this position requires 7 days per week and long hours to oversee and manage the harvest.


Safety, food safety, and quality are the highest priorities. The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing procedures for continuous improvement in quality, food safety, sanitation, employee safety, and maintains employee relations. The quality supervisor will oversee and assign work for Quality Assurance personnel. They will also coordinate order testing with production. The Quality Supervisor will be required to follow and support company safety, GMP, HACCP, food defense, allergen, and other food safety requirements. 


  • Review order requirements and make sure all items are prepared and completed
  • Confirm all products shipped adhere to the company, customer (call off and specification), USDA, FDA, Food Safety and Legal requirements
  • Record data in written and electronic means 
  • Review CCP logs for accuracy and non-conformities and issuing holds
  • Verifying scales, moisture machines, and metal detectors are in working order and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Inform management of problems in product safety or quality including daily shift reports pertaining to new Hold generation and Hold product disposition
  • Train Q1, Q2, and Q3, as well as filling in as backup when needed
  • Prepare and maintain quality team schedule; log requests for vacation and time off and report to management
  • Rotate individuals within the working groups weekly to maintain cross training and team knowledge
  • Assign weekend work fairly and equitably as needed
  • Conduct weekly tail gate meetings with Q1, Q2 and Q3
  • Responsible for the documenting of any incident relating to food safety and/or employee injury and near misses. Must also participate in assigned root cause analysis
  • The Quality supervisor is responsible for enforcing company policies and procedures regarding Safety, Food Safety, Allergen awareness, and GMP to workers.
  • Motivates and maintains healthy employee relations while maintaining professional conduct with all employees
  • Must supervise employees based on employee’s abilities and performance
  • Train, plan, and communicate job expectations, work schedule, and aid in appraisal of job results to employees
  • Follow company and safety policies and procedures at all times
  • Report safety concerns and hazardous conditions to management
  • Notify management of ongoing / unresolved problems with food safety quality, and legality
  • Adhere to all GMP’s and report violations to management
  • New responsibilities may be added
