Job Description

Volt is looking for a Quality Engineer to work on-site with our customer located in Des Moines, IA in a contingent position forecasted for 1 year. As a Quality Engineer, you will provide quality planning, control, and improvement support for manufacturing engineering, supply management, and/or distribution organizations to assure product quality meets the customers' expectations.  This includes the application of quality tools within Customer Support Process (CSP) and the application of quality tools with key suppliers as an integral element of quality planning. Some specific duties of this position are:

  • Participates in QIT (Quality Improvement teams) initiatives as the Quality representative, ensuring quality activities and plans are formulated and followed.
  • Monitors, verifies and facilitates quality activities for warehouse processes (control plans, assembly/process instructions) and confirms process capability.
  • Executes John Deere Quality Control Plan where implemented.
  • Investigates process quality problems, determines root cause for quality problems, gathers and analyzes data and implements corrective action to reduce or eliminate non-value waste resulting from non-conformances of processes.
  • Assists in identifying, communicating and resolving supplier quality problems.
  • Investigates unit quality related issues and concerns related to warehouse processes, gathers and analyzes data, resolves/facilitates resolution and implements corrective action.
  • Engages in applying/leading Quality tools on Continuous Improvement (CI), and/or Value Improvement (VI) teams.
  • Drives prevention actions. Facilitates and writes quality procedures for the purpose of maintaining/updating the warehouse quality system and conducts and supports quality system audits, review results with audit team, and participates in management review meetings.
  • Provides training and/or supervision to co-workers, inspectors, technicians and auditors on quality procedures and tools to monitor critical processes to assure consistent control and/or to implement cost-saving ideas to improve our products to meet customer expectations.


  • 1 or more years' experience with internships focused on shop floor manufacturing or distribution systems
  • Experience using teamwork skills in resolving problems, discussing issues, and communicating potential solutions and results to wage employees, engineering colleagues and management (High)
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Pivot Tables (High)
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support business operations as needed (High)
  • Experience innovating and implementing process improvements focused on improving business results in safety, quality and productivity (High)

Desired Skills, Knowledge & Relevant Work Experience

  • Experience or knowledge with IT tools or programming languages, including, QLIK, SQL and SAS
  • Experience using Root Cause Analysis tools
  • Knowledge of the Continuous Improvement process.
  • An understanding of NCCA (corrective action), and process capability studies.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience working in a union environment

Must be available to work on W2 for Volt. No C2C or 3rd party vendors please.
