Quality Engineer

I have an open position for one of my clients in Everett, Washington (near Seattle) who is seeking a Quality Engineer for a direct, full-time role.

SUMMARY

Responsible for quality engineering activities including the support of design control projects and quality

Engineering oversight of manufacturing activities. Day to day activities include project management and

Problem resolution techniques and execution as well as establishing priorities in support of critical business activities. Develops, applies, and maintains requirements and product performance records to ensure compliance with quality and company ISO standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and drives irreversible corrective actions to address system and process deviations.
  • Undertake and implement cross functional PFMEA & Control Plan programs to drive process capability to optimum levels thus enhancing process and customer quality levels.
  • Promotes the use of data and structured problem solving (DMAIC & Lean) tools and methods to define defect trends & implement fact based corrective actions. Work cross functionally across the site to deploy process controls to optimum levels.
  • Drive and translate voice of the customer requirements (CTQ’s) to process control and optimize performance through the use of variability reduction tools by working cross functionally with suppliers, engineers and customers and effectively communicate progress and results to site management and corporate quality team.
  • Supports standards/expectations for organization training in the use of best practices for assuring product quality and resolving performance issues. These include but are not limited to FMEA, QFD, DMAIC, process control plans, process capability and problem solving tools.
  • Review supporting manufacturing documentation to ensure it contains necessary criteria and provisions to permit effective inspection and testing materials.
  • Analyzes reports and returned products and recommends corrective action.
  • Works with the manufacturing engineering staff and manufacturing personnel to ensure effective inspection and testing procedures and processes are implemented and maintained.
  • Specifies equipment necessary to verify and validate product compliance with customer specified requirements.
  • Interprets and explain inspection procedures, specifications and use of testing equipment, and PCB repair techniques to production employees.
  • Explain schematic drawings, procedure changes and work orders for production employees.

Confers with technical personnel and department supervisors to report assembly issues and reports unresolved issues.

  • Requisition, obtain, and distribute supplies, materials, and equipment to support the inspection function.
  • Substitutes for absent workers and assists workers to alleviate work overload situations.
  • Provide guidance and coaching for production employees to ensure advancement of quality initiatives. 
  • Ensure a sense of urgency is instilled at all times in efforts to support quality initiatives.
  • Other duties assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 3-7 years experience in Quality engineering in the electronic manufacturing industry in a design/manufacturing environment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of IPC 600 and IPC 610 specifications for SMT and thru-hole technologies and ISO specifications.
  • Applied knowledge of MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project etc.) is required.  
  • Able to demonstrate proven experience as a strong team player with multiple organizations.
  • Excellent Documentation and Project Management skills.
  • Strong Communication skills-both written and verbal.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to an ever changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance from direct supervisor.
  • Must be able to interface with individuals with diverse responsibilities and backgrounds.
  • Six Sigma certified - preferred

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS

The functions of this position are not necessarily physically demanding. 

  • The functions are usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. 
  • Some amount of stooping, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. 
  • Must be able to remain seated without a break for periods of up to two hours. 
  • Able to see, hear and speak adequately to perform the functions of this position. 
  • Occasionally exposed to: moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles, and a moderate vibration / noise level. 

Must successfully complete a criminal and credit history background check and drug screening test before confirmed employment.
