Sales Engineer/Product Specialist

Remote Product Specialist opportunity with industry leading data science company dedicated to producing alternative metrics for research outputs ranging from peer-reviewed journal articles to datasets and software. Established global customer base spanning academic institutions, publishers, government agencies, non-profits, research institutes, and corporations.

Key Objectives:

  • Deliver new business by partnering with the sales team
  • Maintain renewal business by partnering with the sales team and engagement managers
  • Grow footprint within high-value pharma accounts by supporting the corporate sales team
  • Work closely with our consultancy service to identify corporate prospects, define requirements, scope professional services projects

Key Tasks

  • Align business development activities with sales colleagues
  • Qualify early-stage sales leads
  • Conducting technical due diligence on early-stage sales opportunities
  • Lead key client calls/demos
  • Determine client needs
  • Prepare and deliver impactful, informed demos and technical presentations
  • Design client solutions, using off-the-shelf or custom services
  • Provide support, or own the RFP process
  • Manage the client hand-off to onboarding team
  • Provide detailed client feedback to Product and Data Insights
  • Attend trade shows, conferences and other events
  • Manage sales activity to ensure that pipeline metrics are met
  • Provide monthly forecasts, sales reports, market reports
  • Provide support to engagement colleagues to improve retention rates
  • Record client interactions and communications in Salesforce
  • Develop a ‘certification-lite’ program with engagement manager
  • Contribute actively to sales planning, influencing sales and marketing strategy
  • Develop and maintain outstanding product knowledge
  • Onboard and train new reps, with respect to product/market knowledge

Key skills, experience, attitude

  • 5+ years’ experience in a client facing role, with significant exposure to the corporate and academic sectors. 
  • Candidates may have a background in business information, publishing, healthcare, data or other relevant technology businesses
  • Adept at building relationships with stakeholders, understanding customer needs and tailoring approach accordingly
  • While this is primarily a sales role, experience beyond business development is advantageous.  The role spans demand generation, opportunity development, solution development and engagement
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with customers, the wider scholarly community, and the team
  • Confident presenting/demoing to large groups of people
  • Passionate about data and academic research
  • Efficient and well-organized, but also pragmatic and flexible
  • Ability to demonstrate personal credibility and integrity
