At Volt Workforce Solutions, we are actively looking for a Software Engineer – Java, Backend/Migration to support our client John Deere, a manufacturing giant that manufactures agricultural, construction, and forestry machinery, diesel engines, drivetrains used in heavy equipment as wells as lawn care equipment.

Job Title: Software Engineer

Duration: 9+ months (likely to extend)

Location: Urbandale, Iowa 50322  - Currently Remote due to COVID-19

Shift: 1st Shift


  • Responsible for both daily on-call support of legacy Sales System application as well as effort to modernize the system.
  • Requires ability to migrate legacy applications to newer technologies while supporting the existing application and data.
  • Primary point of contact for troubleshooting dealer identified issues and working to short-term and long-term resolutions.
  • Strong ability to identify system improvements and implement solutions.
  • Strong Java experience and experience migrating applications from Websphere to Tomcat preferred.
    Back end skills will be more important for this role.


  • Support and maintain legacy sales system application
  • Includes defect triage and fixes (code and data)
  • Focus on modernization of system (code refactor and improvements)
  • On-call rotation (7:00am – 7:00pm)
  • Periodic application deployments to move new code to production
  • Develop new features to support business requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively with offshore resources on projects

This position is located in Urbandale, Iowa. Candidate must be willing to relocate at their own expense.
