VOLT’s client is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer

This is a long term Contingent/Temporary position in Spokane, WA and offered through Volt Technical Resources. We are among the largest IT staffing companies in the US for contract/temporary and direct hire placements and support many of the top rated IT companies in the Pacific Northwest.


We are looking for an experienced professional Senior Electrical Engineer to support operations and maintenance of power plants. Your primary responsibilities will be providing technical leadership and oversight on projects to improve electrical systems, creating/developing project plans and project execution concepts.

You will also be responsible for performing analyses of plant electrical systems, including troubleshooting and root cause analyses, maintaining design records and change management processes, preparing and reviewing detailed engineering calculations and maintaining excellent working relationships.

Solid communications skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, along with a solid grasp of electric power fundamentals will be key to this role.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Generator and major equipment protection and controls. This includes experience with microprocessor protective relays, communications and control devices. Experience with PLCs and variable frequency drives is also favored.
  • Maintaining and/or designing industrial and/or electrical power plant auxiliary electrical systems and protection, control and maintenance practices for major plant electrical equipment. Emphasis will be placed on experience with equipment and systems in electric power plants.
  • Using plant electrical power system analysis software such as SKM, ETAP, EDSA, and Easypower. Must have experience analyzing relay coordination and working with Time-Current Coordination curves (TCCs) and arc-flash hazard assessments.
  • Experience working with synchronous machine operation/control and maintenance.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing power plant electrical drawings, calculations and equipment specifications.
  • Complying with regulatory requirements (especially NERC Standards)
  • 10+ years related experience
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering/Electric Power
  • Professional Engineering License preferred
