VOLT is seeking a Sr. RF Modeling Engineer for our client located in Greensboro, NC.

The Modeling Group is responsible for providing design teams with accurate compact models and electromagnetic simulation support for silicon and III-V technologies.  In silicon, we evaluate external foundry models and develop customized models for novel SOI switch and LNA applications.

In III-Vs, this includes development, extraction and validation of models for HBTs and pHEMTs, as well as a full selection of on-die passive elements. The Modeling Group also helps drive improvements to simulation methods and best practices.  This position will focus on RF CMOS/SOI applications.

In this role you will:

  • Work closely with external silicon foundry partners, internal technology groups and design teams to develop cutting edge RF CMOS/SOI processes.
  • Craft new sub-circuit models for advanced applications, model verification, and general simulation support.
  • Work with product teams to ensure design success and promote the use of optimal simulation methods.
  • Use your own knowledge & technical skill set as well as coordinate inputs from other technical staff.

We are seeking an engineer with:

  • Demonstrated RF characterization, modeling, and simulation skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of semiconductor device physics and compact modeling.
  • Experience with Keysight ADS/ICCAP, AWR Microwave Office, or Cadence is essential.
  • Understanding of EM simulation tools (such as Keysight Momentum or Ansys HFSS) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of power amplifier, low noise amplifier, and RF switch circuits and applications is useful, and circuit design and layout experience is a plus.
  • An understanding of basic DC & RF measurement equipment and techniques (for example semiconductor parameter analyzers, vector network analyzers, and source/load-pull systems) is required, and a knowledge of higher-level techniques (for example pulsed I-V, waveform measurements, or active load-pull) is beneficial.


  • MS or PhD (Electrical Engineering) is preferred with 5 or more years of experience
  • Previous RF Characterization required
  • Modeling experience required: Keysight ADS/ICCAP, AWR Microwave Office, or Cadence is essential.
  • Great communication skills, work with team members to present results
