Job Description

Our client is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for vehicle interfaces with Automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers, including OTA protocols and OTA security.  The ideal candidate will be the Principal vehicle system contact with OEM and relevant Tier 1 partners., while working cohesively with client  Architecture and Engineering teams to ensure technical solutions are compatible with Company internal architecture.

The ideal candidate would be a Vehicle Systems Engineer

Engineering team: 

  • Standard CDM GTM – application level, we use our provider our protocol or modify theirs, design session with OEM – taking services agreed upon, design within those restraints (i.e., remote door unlock). 
  • Different cultures of OEM’s (German, Japanese, etc), technical expertise to talk confidently, we convince why our way is better to deal with their suppliers who makes the hardware in cr.  Then we work with supplier. 
  • Internal Architecture team –what systems can do, Development is gateway team take protocol from car and convert to our language. 
  • Security Network –Documentation – modify/review definition of the interface itself, how does it go from us to car, flow and messages sent, need experience with carrier network and telecom side on network but also to internal network team – firewall/routing.
  • OEM a plus – more in-vehicle experience (telecom, requirements) specific protocols, must have LTE network understanding, as well as SMPP, server side – TLS encryption. 
  • Not hands on to seeing things work, stops in Development at internal design, create specs for interfaces, review design document, good background would be engineer with car company or with supplier network or architect.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Creates System Requirements Specifications (SRS) for OEM specific programs.
  • Creates/interprets OTA protocol specifications for vehicle interfaces with Automotive OEMs and/or Tier 1 suppliers for vehicle services.
  • Principal Vehicle system contact with OEM and relevant Tier 1 partners.
  • Works cohesively with Company Architecture and Engineering teams to ensure technical solutions are compatible with Company internal architecture.
  • Works to establish initial connectivity for interfaces

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years relevant work experience
  • B.S. Engineering or Computer Science degree

Requirements and General Skills:

  • Remains current with Company internal architecture design strategy.
  • Very good oral and written communication abilities needed to interface directly with OEM and Tier 1 in technical discussions
  • Travel required to OEM and partner locations as necessary
  • Follows team best practices.
  • Supports effective management of costs related to Department budget
  • Perform tasks with moderate supervision
  • Produce artifacts for the assigned program(s) with accuracy and quality driven focus
  • Have basic knowledge of telematics platform with an aptitude of learning enterprise components
  • Shows an aptitude to acquire knowledge about applicable technologies
  • Is viewed by the OEM and internal team as important technical contributor
  • Possess leadership capabilities when driving technical discussions internally as well as externally.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels

Technical Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Understanding of wireless networks/technology, vehicle sub-systems and security principles.
