Advisory Software Engineer- Research & Development

This is an estimated 12 months contingent/temporary hire position in Boulder, CO and is offered through Volt Workforce Solutions. Position Description:

Position in the Color Science area with Control Unit Development organization in Boulder Colorado. The Control Unit Development Team delivers high quality solutions comprised of Linux-based software running on multiple hardware platforms, in the control of Continuous Forms and Cutsheet Printers. Our software engineers are generally involved in every phase of the development process, including architecture, planning, design, implementation, unit test, documentation, and providing ongoing support for product test and field support groups. The successful Image Transformation Software Engineer must be confident working with low level, performance critical, real time software applications in a Linux environment.

Required Skills:

  • 6+ years of work experience with 4+ programming in C
  • Experience in the field of color science, such as, color conversion, ICC profiles, formulation, image processing, and understanding of color processes
  • Ability to create and maintain automated unit test suites
  • Experience with multi threading concepts and programming techniques
  • Strong algorithm design and math skills
  • Software development experience working in Linux OS environment
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills
  • Experience with low level, performance critical, real time software development
  • Excellent leadership, organization, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical writing and English communication skills
  • Teaming, self-management, and multitasking skills Preferred Skills: • C++ and OO software design
  • Knowledge of ICC profiles and color management techniques
  • Familiar with LittleCMS, halftone screen types used in printers
  • Working knowledge of software engineering best practices, including design patterns and UML
  • Experience / Knowledge with hash tables and cache systems
  • Experience / Knowledge with device drivers and embedded software development
  • Experience with MATLAB Education / Certifications:
  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • Ensures design and code development incorporates latest technologies and maximizes resources.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations on priorities, design changes, improvements, and problem resolution.
  • Defines, recommends, and implements software alternatives and solutions which will achieve a high level of efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Advises other professionals on complex software product issues related to own discipline.
  • Leads professional teams and significant project planning activities, ensuring that development is completed in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Accountable for completion of team or departmental results and activities and or projects involving multi functional teams on or ahead of schedule while achieving or improving cost and quality objectives.
  • Decisions have a direct and significant effect on project/team objectives and directly impact customer satisfaction, cost, quality and expense
  • Provides on-going technical guidance and leadership for software development projects within the team or functional area.
  • Thoroughly understands and effectively executes existing software development processes and procedures and develops new approaches as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in defining and deciding upon objectives which support the changing business needs.
  • Contributes to development of organizational goals.
  • Failure to accomplish would normally have serious results and substantial additional l resources to correct.
  • Ensures accurate and thorough documentation is maintained for the project. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
