We are looking to hire an Aerospace Tool Room Technician/ Machinist (for an AFTERNOON SHIFT: Mon - Fri from 3pm - 11pm EST) for our Client in the Aerospace industry in Oakville, ON for approximately a 9 month assignment with the possibility of extending upto 12 months assignment through Volt Workforce Solutions Canada.

  • Pay Rate: $27-33/hr (T4) + $0.95/hr Afternoon shift premium + benefits available
  • Shift: Afternoon shift  Mon - Fri from 3pm - 11pm EST 
  • Length of Assignment: 9 months to start with the possibility of extension to 12 months, starting ASAP pending background check, ITAR and CCGP Checks and Reference Checks

SUMMARY:
Reporting to ME Supervisor(s), as the Tool Room Machinist, your responsibilities will be to support all Machine shop, Surface Finish and Maintenance activities; you will be required to setup and operate a variety of tool room equipment to produce precision parts, fabricate and modify tools to make or repair machine tools, applying knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Undertake a variety of jobs, in some cases with limited instruction or information from the customer.
  • Position and fasten work pieces.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machine.
  • Work from sketches, verbal, and print information in order to produce projects according to specifications.
  • Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as CNC Mills/Lathes, Manual Mills/Lathes, Drill Press, Jig Bore, Sanders, Grinders, and other support equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding with Stick /Tig and Acetylene Torches.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges, and outside diameter gauges.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to insure parts are being made according to specifications.
  • Operate crane in order to load parts onto machining center, lathe, or mill.
  • Actively participate in the 5S program.
  • Assist with keeping the department and machinery clean
  • Other duties as assigned.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of machining experience.
  • Aerospace experience
  • Possess a good knowledge of tooling speeds and feed rates.
  • Basic knowledge of electro plating
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and use an overhead crane in a safe manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize measuring equipment in support of quality requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to hold tight machining tolerances.
  • Understand various tooling technology.
  • Troubleshooting -- Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Active Listening -- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Basic English Language Skills
