Job Description

System Engineer – All Digital/Linear Video

Do you have experience with CISCO/EC & ARRIS/DAC controllers?  Mystro, SARA, Passport CPE back office systems?  CISCO & ARRIS SDV & VOD systems? 

The work this engineer will be associated with involves planning, prep, build, test, and fix as it applies to pre-launch.  Will support maintenance windows for hub migrations as well as channel mux changes, source definition changes, source multi-cast creation & changes, session building, service changes, QPSK add/drops for testing.  EIA frequency changes & channel map changes.  Includes day time prep & third shift maintenance window work. 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Configuration and integration of equipment into new and existing video headends including receivers, encoders, transcoders, multiplexers, Edge QAMS, Conditional Access System(s), network controllers, switched digital video system
  • Troubleshooting issues as related to the Conditional Access System
  • Troubleshooting issues as related to the video distribution networks including RF
  • Configuration of equipment in a multicast environment
  • Development and contribution to internal documentation (Test Procedures, MOPs, Solution Descriptions)

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience within digital CATV environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
  • Customer interaction and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of IP networking and Internet technologies (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, NTP)
  • Knowledge of DAC, APEX, CAP, DNCS, EC, transcoders, encoders, muxing equipment
  • Proven ability to configure and troubleshoot video headend equipment
  • Linux command line skills
  • Set Top Box management, guide, VOD Systems
  • RF Networks (Combining, Taps, Padding, Amplifiers, Nodes)
  • Familiarity with fiber networks and HFC plant operations
  • Familiarity with MPEG2/4 encapsulation
  • Ability/willingness to travel up to 100%
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in a video headend as an engineer directly responsible for video distribution
  • ARRIS DAC6000 – Digital Addressable Controller operations and administration
  • CISCO DNCS/EC
  • Harmonic video equipment
  • Digital Headend operation
