Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs defined assessment or reviews documentation/information for each load of fruit entering the facility
  • Perform tests and use special equipment to ensure apples received are within defined specifications. This includes grinding/pressing apple samples for pH/brix/patulin and any other criteria developed in the future
  • Gives approval for each load of fruit delivered, based on defined criteria, before fruit is received. Alerts Supply Chain Manager when loads are out of specification and before agreeing to receive
  • Works with Production Supervisor when apple lots fail the cut test on production lines. This position will work with the other members of Supply Chain to find another lot for use and creates SCAR for each load of fruit out of specification
  • Responsible for data collection, trend reporting and making recommendations to management on supplier performance.
  • Keep daily records of tests performed and results. 
  • Follow process guidelines and expedite quality concerns to management
  • Build good working relationships with quality, supply chain, production, and maintenance team members
  • Complete all of the paper to keep a record of the production day
  • Calibrate equipment on a daily basis as needed
  • Develops and implements Standard Operating Procedures for Apple Receiving; evaluating apple quality, handling foreign materials.
  • Works with the apple sorters to identify poor quality apples and make alternative plans, if necessary.
  • Builds apple variety knowledge within the organization.
  • Triages use of apples in the yard based on quality analysis.   Works with apple sourcing on the scheduling of apple deliveries.
  • Builds good working relationships with the growers and act as an active participant in the growing process throughout the year.  Participates in the picking decisions and the organic certification process. 

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, or equivalent experience within a farming environment.
  • 1+ year(s) similar experience in a food manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience in helping develop and implement SOP’s
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual; English and Spanish a strong plus! 
  • Ability to work accurately, with interruptions, to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to do analysis, draw conclusions, make recommendations
