Job Description

Volt has partnered with an established Aerospace Company based in Burbank, Ca and we are looking for an Assembly Supervisor. The highly qualified candidate selected will be responsible for the performance and support of the assembly units by working with a strong team.  Carry out the orders of the Operations Manager within the policies, procedures, contract and guidelines established; maintains quality, production, safety and other standards.  Supervises all union personnel involved in carrying out this function. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs all work in their assigned departments
  • Utilize all resources (machinery, materials, people, outside services) provided by the various staff functions to control both detailed and final operations to maintain overall performance of the department.  Examples include but are not limited to:
  • Using the Production Schedules and daily status report furnished by the Production Control function to control production and prevent delinquencies.
  • Approving and applying promptly all time standards by the Manufacturing Engineering function and seeing to it that they are properly administered and used. Keeping abreast of all method changes in the department, regardless of where initiated, and being fully responsible for reporting all such changes promptly to the Manufacturing Engineering function.
  • Using the variance reports form Data Processing as a guide to take necessary corrective action to keep costs in line with the budget.
  • Utilizing the Managing for Daily Improvement Boards to organize and lead the cell leadership team, driving the Lean Manufacturing culture, completing Point Kaizens and participating in Kaizen events to eliminate waste in the cell.
  • Overcomes obstacles, such as material shortages or machine / tooling breakdowns which may interfere with meeting schedules or maintaining quality; enlists the assistance of Tooling and Engineering, Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering and other departments.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job requires the direct supervision of hourly, union employees.

Education and Experience: 

  • Must have a college level degree (BA, BS). 
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must have leadership experience in a unionized, Lean Manufacturing focused environment. 
  • Must be a self starter with problem solving skills. 
  • Must have the ability to interpret complicated drawings, understand all types of machinery, production techniques (including heat treatment and other types of special metal processing), and knowledge of the properties of metals. 
  • Must be able to use shop mathematics, tables and charts to solve production machine shop problems. 
  • Must be able to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with shop personnel and be fully capable of exercising supervisory responsibilities. 

Computer Skills:

MAPICS manufacturing software; MS Excel spreadsheet software, MS Word, and MS Powerpoint software.
