Job: Assistant Controller

Our client has a need for an Assistant Controller for their office in Boise, Idaho. This is a direct hire position and is offered through Volt Workforce Solutions. Job Summary:

Assists the Controller in directing the organization's accounting functions. These functions include establishing and maintaining the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures, overseeing the preparation and evaluation of financial statements, budgets and other financial operating reports, and presenting findings and recommendations to top management. Organizes and coordinates the preparation of external audit and tax schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting Functions                                                                                        Time Allocation: 75%

  • Assists with and produces monthly financials for review by Controller and CFO.
  • Assists in the analysis of operating results and various management reports.
  • Oversees and performs month-end account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, accruals, inventory reconciliations, journal entries, and overall closing process.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements resulting in improved processes and controls and cost reductions.
  • Works closely with external auditors coordinating and assisting with annual audits and tax return preparation.
  • Assists with annual operating budgets.
  • Produces other financial operating and management reports and analysis as requested.
  • Maintains asset accounting software and depreciation records for company and tax accountants.

Other Functions                                                                                      Time Allocation:           25%

  • Special project work as requested by the Controller, Accounting Systems Manager, and CFO.
  • Work closely with cross-functional managers to drive business improvements.
  • Assists with the administration and reporting of third-party benefit providers including banks, investment advisors, attorneys, and employee benefit administrators.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of company-owned life insurance policies.
  • Assists in the preparation and filing of various reports as required by federal, state and local property, sales and income tax authorities.
  • Assists in the development of the OCI accounting staff in the areas of cross-training and professional development.
  • Assists with cash management and risk management functions as requested by the Controller.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and accounting packages required; experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred.
  • Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is desirable.
  • 5-7 years accounting experience in a corporate environment required.
  • Demonstrated ability in creative problem solving with a history of initiating and implementing solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with OCI managers and co-workers in a team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to respond effectively and independently to inquiries from outside customers and vendors and company accounting personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize activities.
  • Required work schedule:  Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Additional hours may be required occasionally.
