Job Description

Volt has a great opportunity for an Associate Manufacturing Engineer - Composites to work with your client, a large aerospace industry company in San Diego, CA.
In this role the Composite Manufacturing Engineer will support senior engineers through analysis of multiple projects, and within the company's product/platform line suite, and within our range of manufacturing operations (material cutting/kitting, lamination, cure, demold, trim/drill/machining, and assembly).
Much of the company's Composites Manufacturing Engineering roles/responsibilities are centered on projects. Projects range from program/platform leadership/support, maturing manufacturing/materials/processes, continuous improvement, capital acquisition, and facility improvements/expansion. Projects originate from a data-based articulation of need within Composites Manufacturing.
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Must have a basic understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow and apply basic engineering knowledge, adapt standard techniques, and utilize the required diagnostics, tools and equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Must be able to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other professionals, to produce appropriate documentation, and to present results to a limited internal audience.
  • Must be able to work both independently and on a team.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be able to multitask multiple and complex projects while staying organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
  • Knowledge or experience with Six Sigma is a plus

Composite lamination operations experience is a plus, specifically:

  • Familiar with laser projector systems
  • Hands-on experience with Fibersim
  • Design, build, and maintain lamination mold tooling
  • Knowledge of ATL and/or AFP
