Job Description

Senior Automation Engineer

This company located in Spokane, WA which is a value-added electronic manufacturing service (EMS) provider to some of the world’s leading OEMs is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer. They specialize in PCBA and full product assembly, plastic molding, precision metal stamping, fabrication and finishing, and engineering services with products ranging from simple consumer devices to complex, high end commercial and industrial electro-mechanical products. Over 40 years electronic manufacturing experience.

The selected candidate will design, develop, specifies and documents automation, semi-automation and manual assembly equipment with the most economic production processes, methods, operation sequence and tooling for the fabrication of parts, finishing and assembly components, subassemblies and final products. Ability to use Solidworks and Creo. AutoCAD experience – basic working knowledge. Fixture and automation design, including experience with machined part design and pneumatic circuit design.

Knowledge of typical automation methods and components (slides, sensors, switches, ball screws, motors, clamps, etc.). Ability to select pneumatic components for a given design. Experience with bed-of-nails fixturing. Manage multiple fixture designs at various phases of completion (design, quote, buy, build, release). Ability to troubleshoot and modify fixtures during a build. Experience with CNC router or mill, hands-on experience with machine shop equipment and hand tools. Trouble shoots production processes and product designs to improve yield and reduce costs. Uses data and experiments to develop processes and process improvements. Develops assembly guides, procedures and illustrations. Provides input for manufacturing assembly costs for new product quotes. Participates in cost studies and equipment recommendations. Provides guidance to manufacturing engineers, tool designers and technicians in various projects and responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science. Over four years progressive experience in electronic engineering or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience. Over five years’ experience with Solidworks and/or Creo. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional publications, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, engineers, clients, and customers. Applied engineering mathematics, statistics, and business and economic analysis. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to operate a computer.

Familiarity with the following software: schematic capture packages, spreadsheet, database, and word processing. Ability to develop and execute design of experiments. Preferred qualifications:  Over ten years’ experience with Solidworks and/or Creo. Experience in Contract Manufacturing and EMS industry desired with an emphasis in supporting an offshore manufacturing facility.
