What You Will Do

You will interact in multiple environments with customers and fellow Engineers. You will be providing solutions and assisting your team as they provide solutions to customers. You will need to have excellent analysis and design skills and the desire and ability to learn new technologies and tools quickly.

Given this is a consulting-based role within a particular client, you might be expected to do the following tasks daily:

  • Provide support to client’s functions during the manufacturing process to bring designs to completion.
  • Attend and/or lead design reviews with customers to resolve technical issues.
  • Participate and perform action items as a team member or lead projects involving other engineers and cross-functional team members.
  • Establish standards, templates, and guidelines as applied to the automation system using the information gathered in the definition stage while considering the operator interaction
  • Responsible for automation and controls systems design, specifications, programming, simulation, testing, as well as start-up assistance
  • Select the physical communications media, network architecture, and protocols based on data requirements to complete system design and support systems development
  • Define the data structure layout and data flow model
  • Develop a functional description of the automation solution (e.g. control scheme, alarms, HMI, reports)
  • Design and install wiring to reliably communicate information between measurement and control element devices and control equipment
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, test, repair, and improve sensing, measurements, and actuation devices
  • Develop PLC code to meet the client’s specifications
  • Develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) in accordance with the design documents
  • Assemble all required documentation and user manuals created during the development process in order to transfer essential knowledge to customers and end users
  • Provide detailed documentation

What you Might Have Done Before

Your team will be a rare breed of engineers. They come from varied backgrounds but typically have some of the following traits:

  • Received a Technical Bachelor’s degree such as Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineer Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar technical degree
  • Have 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment working with controls and automation systems
  • Programmed PLC’s using RSLogix500, RSLogix5000/Studio5000, Siemens Step7 or TIA Portal, or others using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Blocks, or Sequential Function Charts (SFC’s)
  • Designed, created, and programmed HMI Screens in FactoryTalk View, Wonderware InTouch, Ignition, WinCC, etc.
  • Worked with networking components such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, or Ethernet/IP Protocols
  • Worked with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) such as PowerFlex, Schneider, ABB, or others.
  • Worked in a team environment while leading different projects
  • Created panel designs, layouts, bill of materials, and wiring schematics
  • Adapted quickly to learn new skills, technologies, and practices.
  • Interacted with customers and vendors and resolve comments and requested changes
  • Demonstrated a high commitment to quality and ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
  • Ability to mentor and lead teams with outstanding communication skills
  • Exercised strong organizational and time management skills for yourself and other team members
  • Able to interact with customers and vendors and resolve comments and requested changes
