BILLING SPECIALIST with Optometry coding

Job summary

The Billing Specialist will investigate, initiate and resolve edits to ensure accurate and compliant claim submission to Medicare, Medical Assistance and other third-party payers.  This may include payer follow-up to ensure accurate reimbursement and denial resolution.

Summary of essential job functions

  1. Works collaboratively with payers and customers to identify and rectify claim issues to ensure appropriate payer processing of claims
  2. Maintains knowledge of payer regulations, including Medicare, Medical Assistance and other third party payers specific to assigned customer(s)
  3. Understands government and commercial payer websites and can research and interpret published information accurately
  4. Effectively works with assigned Electronic Health Records and billing systems to ensure claim accuracy
  5. Maintains data integrity by ensuring that all changes in diagnosis, procedure code, modifier, etc. made on the claim are reflected within the billing system
  6. Participates in analysis of work processes and provides feedback to Knack Global leadership to assist in continuous improvement
  7. Actively participates in department meetings and assumes additional responsibilities as needed
  8. Follows all Knack Global published policies and procedures
  9. Optometry coding experience

Minimum requirements

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required
  2. Certification required within 90 days of employment:  CPOC (through American Optometric Association), CPC, CPC-A (though AAPC), RHIT or CCS-P (though AHIMA)
  3. Experience in insurance, claims and/or customer service desired

Abilities required

  1. Basic computer skills, including the ability to work with multiple software programs
  2. Strong organizational skills
  3. Effective communication skills
  4. Ability to work both independently as well as working with a team
