Job Description

Works 2nd shift each day splitting time between boiler operator (50%) and maintenance technician (50%) When operating as a maintenance technician the candidate maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.


* Properly monitor the facilities boiler in accordance with the Code of Mass. Regulations. CMR-146. This includes standing watch in a 24/7 environment on either a fixed or rotating schedule

* Performing preventive maintenance on facility equipment and production equipment as needed and in accordance with CMR-146 guidelines

*Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements on engines, motors, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufactures instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.

*Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

*Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hand and power tools, examining form and texture of parts

*Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventative maintenance techniques: monitoring compliance

*Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.

*Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

*Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.

*Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communication actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

*Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

*Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


  • 2nd Class Fireman’s license required.
  • High school diploma or GED required. Two-year technical degree in an appropriate background preferred.
  • Equipment Maintenance Knowledge – Minimum of One-year work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment required. (Applicable military experience will be considered)
  • Equipment Knowledge such as wiring, electrical, electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, and mechanical required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English required.
  • Experience using Hand & Power tools required.
  • Lockout/Tagout experience preferred.
  • Grade 1 or 2 Industrial Waste Water License preferred

The ideal candidate possesses some equipment maintenance experience, technical understanding, technical zeal, deals well with uncertainty, understands basic safety, power tools, possesses attention to detail, flexibility, job knowledge, and is highly productive.
