Chemical Services Tech - Blytheville, AR

Temp to Hire!  $14 hour -  4 day rotating shifts - No Relocation

If so, Volt Workforce Solutions may have the perfect opportunity for you!  Our client, is a globally recognized onsite chemical services manager and has partnered with Volt Workforce Solutions to offer an opportunity for a Chemical Services Tech inside their operation at Nucor - Hickman Steel.  This is NOT a position for Nucor - it is for an onsite company that partners with Nucor.

The Chemical Services Tech (CST) will work with a team to be the first line of defense for Nucor when it comes to process fluid testing. Some college courses or work experience in chemistry would be outstanding but it is not necessary!  Full training will be provided to the right candidate that can thrive in a very fast-paced, high energy and customer centric environment.

Shift:

This full-time position has rotating, 12 hour shifts (4 days on, 3-4 days off depending on production) with rotation from day shift to night shift. Hourly rate begins at $14.00. Possible Temp to perm position for the right candidate after successfully completing 90 day introductory period. Our client offers highly competitive benefits after converting to full-time!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the collection, analysis, testing and recording of process fluid samples.
  • Perform sampling and wet bench chemical analysis (titration, pH, conductivity) of process fluids such as sulfuric acid, nitiric acid sodium hydrate, potassium hydrate.
  • Make addition of chemicals; including coolants, oils, lubricants, acids and caustic as directed by site staff or operating protocols.
  • Carry various size samples of rolled steel  and perform metallurgical testing. 
  • Lab equipment used includes:  spectrophotometers, refractometers and reflectometers. Assist in properly maintaining tools and utility equipment. Assist in maintaining and calibrating all lab equipment.
  • Will be required to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to don and wear PPE.
  • Must follow all Quaker Chemical and customer safety procedures.
  • Maintain chemical, equipment, and product inventories.
  • Supervise bulk product deliveries.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree is highly preferred and given first consideration.
  • Some College level coursework is preferred but not required, including some basic chemistry OR 2+ years experience performing similar functions and using similar equipment within a plant or manufacturing environment. 
  • THIS IS A PHYSICAL JOB THAT REQUIRES STANDING, MOVING LIFTING, BENDING FOR 12 HOURS PER DAY WITHIN A STEEL PLANT. Previous work experience performing physical job duties (preferably in Manufacturing, Production, Warehouse) is required.  
  • Associate will work in a manufacturing steel environment and will be exposed to fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The associate is exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock and trip and slip hazards.  The noise level in the manufacturing environment requires hearing protection at all times.
  • Will be required to stand for long periods and walk great distances daily.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lb’s regularly during a 12 hour shift. Must be able to bend/crouch/stoop and dip on a regular basis in order to obtain samples. Must possess ability to walk on slippery/dirty surfaces.
  • Must be able to don and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must have basic working knowledge of: Internet software, e-mail, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • All candidates subject to criminal background check, drug screen and physical exam.
