Summary

Providing CAD and technical assistance as needed to the project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Civil Designer II will work with minimal direct supervision from Lead Coordinator or Project Engineer to analyze sketches, notes, and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete new designs.  Responsibilities include:

•     Assemble site specific layouts and sections.

•     Be able to fully design and detail civil components.

•     Be able to design grading, paving, erosion control and drainage plans specific to the site.

•     Be able to design finished surface layouts.

•     Be able to generate all types of site layouts, section cuts, and plan views.

•     Be able to incorporate Google SketchUp model into site layout.

•     Calculate dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications, and material quantities including cut and fill and pipe lengths for storm drainage, underground utility, and piping design.

•     Analyze proposed site factors and design maps, graphs, tracings, and diagrams to illustrate findings.

•     Limited exercise of engineering judgment as required in making design decisions in areas including grading, drainage, erosion control, and underground piping designs.

•     Display a good general knowledge of local requirements for stormwater management.

•     Be able to size sediment detention ponds based on site size and rainfall.

•     Prepare reports and document project activities and data.

•     Attend each monthly engineering staff meeting.

•     The Civil Designer II will be a team player, will maintain a cordial and cooperative attitude in the department and in the company and perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent.

Education and Experience

Meets all requirements of Designer I and can effectively perform all duties of that position.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•     Strong computer and AutoCAD skills.

•     Able to read vendor drawings and printed material accurately and thoroughly.

•     Able to recognize design interference and potential layout problems as it pertains to civil construction.

•     Able to fully check their own drawings.

•     Must have the ability to effectively interact with various levels of management within the organization.

•     Must have the ability to effectively interact with clients and vendors.

•     Willing to work overtime on an as needed basis.
