Job Description

Looking for a candidate familiar with a lab environment and able to follow directions and process. This position is responsible for the daily collection of patient samples according to established policies and procedures. Understands laboratory sample collections, processing and storage requirements for in-house testing and referral lab testing.

Duration:                  3 months Temp to Hire

Pay Rate:                  $ 15 hr - $ 20 hr DOE (Depends On Experience)

Schedule:                Mon. - Fri.    |    8 am - 5 pm

Clinical Laboratory Scientist possesses the ability to organize workload for maximum efficiency, accurately and to help maintain the quality of patient testing. Assist testing personnel with laboratory testing. Ability to maintain good patient relations and handle difficult situations in a lab collection center. Must have familiarity with LCMS and a strong foundation in chemistry.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
A. Specimen Processing, Test Ordering and daily tasks

  1. Follows the physician order when ordering tests.
  2. Verifies Insurance and correctly enters into the system
  3. Ensures that the specimen meets sample requirements for in-house testing as well as testing sent to reference labs.
  4. Ensures that lab test requisitions are accurately completed and follows-up for additional information if needed.
  5. Orders tests into the LIS accurately and in a timely manner
  6. Checks sample label before placing bar code label on the sample, ensuring positive identification
  7. Properly processes the samples and maintains specimen integrity at all times.
  8. Calls the Physician or ordering facility with any questions regarding the lab test orders.

B. Inventory Control and daily monitors

  1. Maintains proper rotation of supplies, dates and initials upon receipt.
  2. Orders supplies as needed, notifies supervisor of any inventory issues.
  3. Assists supervisor in inventory management and helps unpack supplies
  4. Documents temperatures and maintenance daily, when patient testing is performed.
  5. Takes corrective actions when monitors are unacceptable.

C. Other

  1. Assists Technical Supervisor with the monitoring and collecting of data.
  2. Performs Quality Assurance reporting as assigned by Supervisor.
  3. Responsible for other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Director.
  4. Seeks out the necessary supervisory approval for all over time.
  5. Adheres to infection control procedures at all times
  6. Follows all departmental safety policies and reports safety hazards to the Lab Director
  7. Attends OSHA, Biomedical Waste and any other training as necessary.
  8. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  9. Recognizes and performs duties in an independent manner, without being instructed to do so.
  10. Schedules vacation with Supervisor or Lab Director with 30-day advance notice.
