Cloud Automation Engineer - AWS

Volt is looking for a mid-level but highly motivated Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Automation Engineer to support a direct Federal client in Baltimore, MD. The selected candidate will have experience with cloud scripting and automation and be responsible for processing data from cloud based systems and turning that data into useful business intelligence information for consumption by the Cybersecurity team. 

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, plans, and integrates cloud computing and virtualization systems using infrastructure as code and modern cloud-native deployment techniques such as DevOps and/or DevSecOps. 
  • Pull data from cloud based systems (or central repositories) into the reporting system to facilitate near-real-time analysis and reporting.
  • Maximize automation of security controls in the cloud-based environment, including hands on development and deployment of automation scripts
  • Develops and conducts testing of cloud and virtualization systems
  • Research new technologies and develop proofs of concept
  • Support security assessments, create project deliverables, and other activities as requested
  • Maintains technical expertise relevant to industry standards and best practices in cloud computing
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

Other Characteristics:

  • Has a complete understanding of Cloud computing and data principles, theories, and concepts, as well as a general knowledge of Cloud security
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Remains abreast of the newest cloud computing tools and technologies available.

Required Experience, Education, and Certifications:

  • BA/BS in and engineering or IT-related discipline (or an additional experience in lieu of degree)
  • 5+ years of experience in scripting and automation (e.g., Python, SQL, Java, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience in Amazon Web Services (AWS), including data normalization and architecture
  • Demonstrated experience customizing Splunk for log aggregation, ingestion, and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience working with large relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Demonstrated understanding of FedRAMP
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust designation as a condition of hire and continued employment
  • Location: Customer site in Baltimore, MD

Desired Experience and Certifications:

  • AWS Certified Developer Associate level (or higher) certification is strongly preferred
  • Experience with RSA’s Archer platform
  • Experience with Security tools (e.g., Tenable, NAC, etc)
  • Experience with other cloud platforms, e.g., MS Azure, GCP strongly preferred
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud desired, C2S strongly preferred
