Job Summary

The CNC Machinist/Setup reports to the Machine Shop Supervisor and will support CNC programming and setting up of CNC machining centers and lathes. Responsible for setups, changeovers, g-code edits, and proving out programs by checking measurements on completed and in process parts.  The position will also support manufacturing process documentation and time studies. This person must have a dedication to quality, an exceptional work ethic, and the ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setups, changeovers and g-code edits.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints.
  • Uses calipers and micrometers, along with all other standard shop measuring instruments.
  • Understands programming concepts, and is able to edit program for tool locations, and part off sets.
  • Actively participates in a team-based, lean manufacturing environment.
  • Able to perform first piece inspection on parts, and consistently keep parts within specifications.

Prerequisite Skills and Education

  • High school diploma, proficient in shop math.
  • 3+ years experience setting up and operating CNC machinery.
  • Must know how to edit g-codes
  • Either a CNC certification or some machining experience and a willingness to attend and successfully complete a certified CNC training program.
