Volt is seeking a Combustion Analyst - CFD to work onsite at our client’s facility in either Mossville, IL or San Antonio, TX.  Within this role, you will work to reduce emissions and "make progress possible" through engines that power infrastructure, energy and transportation sectors.  This is a contingent position forecasted for 1 year.  

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support diesel engine performance analysis of C7.2 through C18 engines
  • Utilize proprietary simulation tools to support engine product definition, rating feasibility, and calibration

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree (and 3 years of work experience - school projects will not count) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on internal combustion engines (especially diesel)
  • Graduate level knowledge of combustion, thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the following areas:  diesel engine combustion, turbocharging and virtual development tools
  • Extensive experience with 3D virtual engine development tools (Converge, xFD, AVL Fire, etc.)

A strong candidate will also have:

  • Experience with 1D virtual engine development tools (Dynasty/Destiny, GT-Power, AVL-Boost, etc.)
  • Engine development experience (hardware limitations, lug curves, emissions regulations, etc.)
  • Knowledge of turbocharging
  • Experience solving complex problems
  • Initiative in supporting the success of a team (i.e. collaboration and people skills)
  • Ability to understand and write computer algorithms (C, Python, etc.)
  • Practical understanding of engines (hobby racing, SAE, etc.)
  • Proven ability to meet schedule commitments
  • Ability to communicate performance tradeoffs to a broader engineering team (especially in written form)
