Job Description

Compliance  Specialist

I have an open position for one of my clients in Renton, WA who is seeking a Compliance Specialist for a temp contract role


  1. Create and revise Technical Documentation files – including IEC test procedures and reports, compliance safety standards, in-house and external testing certifications and requirement checklists
  2. Maintain compliance database
  3. Prepare compliance reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing measurement data and trends
  4. Provide periodic and ad hoc reports to senior staff and project managers


  1. Develop compliance plans by researching and applying compliance engineering concepts and criteria
  2. Adapt and modify compliance engineering options to develop and evaluate compliance methodologies
  3. Organize compliance programs by preparing timetables, cost estimates and required resources including test laboratories and equipment
  4. Determine compliance by establishing compliance test standards; conducting and witnessing tests; performing diagnostic procedures; measuring performance; analyzing and evaluating findings; performing forensic analysis of failures; troubleshooting failures; supervising sub-contractors
  5. Prevent compliance issues by collaborating with engineering planning and design teams to review design data, identify and resolve product and engineering design issues, identify short-term and long-range issues, research and identify applicable regulatory and industry compliance standards and codes and develop compliance policies
  6. Initiates projects with regulatory (NRTL’s, Notified Bodies, etc.), EMC testing labs, and governmental agencies to secure appropriate global approvals
  7. Participates in technical design reviews to (a) determine regulatory requirements, (b) communicate those requirements to the project team, (c) participate in design decisions that affect compliance and (d) estimate work load for regulatory tasks

Compliance Testing

  1. Attain compliance by isolating and resolving non-compliance issues by recommending product and process changes
  2. Document compliance by completing approval applications, recording test results, preparing investigative reports, preparing and filing Declarations of Conformity
  3. Manage agency certification and documentation activities for R&D existing product lines and reviews
  4. Manage EMC, product safety and radio approvals from pre-scans / construction review through final regulatory approval
  5. Work with the Engineering team to resolve all issues arising during testing
  6. Work with Product Development to acquire samples for testing and required design documentation.
  7. Guide Product Development through all phases of the Agency certification process, while communicating agency’s project status and test results to the project team in a timely manner

Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology discipline
  2. Five years of regulatory agency experience in a design and manufacturing environment, including experience with ETL, UL, CSA, TUV, FCC, CE, etc
  3. Proven experience obtaining “Green” approvals is desirable, i.e. RoHS, REACH, WEEE, etc
  4. Documented strong background in EMC testing and mitigation
  5. Demonstrated solid experience with PCB layout and shielding design for EMC mitigation
  6. Demonstrated strength in presenting to a wide range of audience in written and verbal formats using a variety of office productivity tools (e.g., MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel)
