Job Description

CNC Programmer

Main Purpose of Job:

Fabricate parts within tolerances using and drawings/specifications. Set up and operate all Machine Shop equipment safely and efficiently including CNC milling machine, lathe, manual milling machines, manual lathes, surface grinder and other manual machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Use MasterCam software to generate programs for use in the CNC equipment.  Assist Engineering in machine design.  Recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency.   ________________________________________________________________

Main Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics.
  •  Use precision instruments such as micrometers, verniers, gauges, indicators, machinist scales, and optical comparator.
  • Machine set-up: i.e. Bridgeports millers, manual lathes, grinders, saws, sheet metal shears, sheet metal brakes, drill press and various other manual machine shop equipment. 
  • Program, setup and operate CNC millers and CNC lathes.
  • Specific knowledge of appropriate feeds, speed, and tooling for a wide range of materials.
  • Maintain tooling records in SBMS.
  • Weld parts using Tig and Mig welder.
  • Bench work includes any necessary operations such as filing, de-burring, grinding, and lapping.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and other company equipment.
  • Perform tasks within estimated times while producing good quality parts.
  • Follow company/department procedures.
  • Perform various other duties assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
  • Strong CAD/CAM skills.

Education: High School Diploma and/or GED Equivalent and/or 10+ years’ experience in machining or related field. Basic PC skills. Basics or CAD/CAM and document management. Read prints to interpret part dimensions and tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD & T).
