Continuation Engineer (Direct-hire) St. Paul, MN

Responsible for planning, controlling and coordinating field issue mitigation and cost reduction activities related to existing products. Works with all departments within the company to ensure that product specifications, performance, durability, quality, cost and manufacturing requirements are met.


  • Identify, analyze, define, and communicate product issues in the field for solution development assuring that quality, reliability, serviceability, safety, cost, and performance objectives are met.
  • Support root cause identification through in-depth data analysis and test validation.
  • Track and communicate solution development and implementation.
  • Support solution validation planning and execution.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to field service personnel.
  • Coordinate cost savings projects opportunities as directed by management.
  • Identify and coordinate the implementation of cost savings initiatives with cross functional support.
  • Conduct regular design reviews to validate that designs meet required specifications.
  • Work with suppliers to coordinate prototyping activities and to ensure design expectations are met.
  • Work closely with new product development, manufacturing, quality control and procurement for the implementation of field issue mitigation and cost reduction proposals.
  • Overseas travel may be required.
  • Supports “Lean Business Enterprise” initiatives for continuous process improvement and waste elimination.

Requirements (Knowledge and Experience):

  • 3-10 years’ experience in engineering design environment, preferably in an industry or environment similar.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering. Advanced engineering degree desirable.
  • 2 plus years’ experience in design support of consumer product (electro-mechanical and mechanical)
  • 5 plus years’ experience in areas of machine design, sheet metal, injection molding and aluminum alloy castings desirable.
  • Experience with consumer products (electro-mechanical) design and manufacturing.
  • Clear understanding of manufacturing processes including sheet metal, welding, injection molding, extrusion and casting.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and documentation methods including bills of material and engineering change orders.
  • Self-motivated, creative and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, project management software and SolidWorks (or other 3D parametric modeling software).
