Controls Engineer

Indianapolis, IN

Volt has an opportunity for you to become part of a prestigious team of professionals. We are seeking a Controls Engineer to work onsite in Indianapolis, IN.

In this position you will:

  • Maintain PLC’s, HMI’s, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors and data collection and analysis software
  • Assess, identify, design, and make complex program modifications, PLC’s logic, HMI’s programs and servo controller logic; improve individual equipment and system performance. 
  • Troubleshoot issues with hardware and processes to solve any electrical, mechanical or process problem. 
  • Assist production, maintenance, and engineers to meet daily priorities, coverage, and special projects
  • Troubleshoot existing machine control systems.
  • Write ladder logic programs to control highly mechanical machines.
  • Write HMI programs for interfacing between PLC and operators.
  • Create and maintain system PLC manuals.
  • Interface and communicate with vendors, customers, software engineering, installation contractors and project management.
  • Design control systems for new projects.
  • Develop and engineer electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and PLC logic.
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.

Skills & Experience needed to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical/Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, or Electronics/Electrical Technology preferred
  • Experience in a production environment implementing process improvements for high speed production equipment with PLC’s, servo drives, motion controls and HMI’s.
  • Experience providing technical analysis, feasibility studies and recommendations for controls systems requirements preferred.
  • Allen Bradley and/or Siemens programming experience. 
  • Advanced knowledge of all PLC based hardware and software.
  • Microsoft Office, SQL Server and Manufacturing Execution System Software.
  • Able to perform AutoCAD documentation of electrical systems.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
