Job Description

Volt is seeking a Database Programmer for our customer in Montgomery, AL.

Agency/Department:         DoD Operations Division (MAFB-Gunter Annex, AL)

Job Summary:  Provide technical design, programming, documentation, and implementation assistance of Oracle database applications in support of the Transportation Systems task at Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex, Alabama. This person requires knowledge of information systems and related systems concepts for effective development and deployment of Transportation Systems software. The person in this position will participate in all phases of software development and troubleshooting, with heavy emphasis on database design, optimization, performance-tuning and communications. The person will also design and prepare technical reports and related documentation..  


  • Required:  Four (4) to Six (6) years of extensive experience in writing in PL SQL programming and Java.
  • Required:  Four (4) to Six (6) years of indepth experience in Oracle database design and developing databases from scratch.
  • Required:  8750.1M Requirements
    • Information Assurance Technical Level II (IAT-II) Certification: GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or Security+.
  • Required:  U.S. Citizenship; Secret Security Clearance.
  • Desired:  Experience in optimizing, tuning, and troubleshooting database and application performance and communications. 
  • Desired:  Knowledge of Government regulations, manuals, standards, and industry publications releated to software design, programming, and development functions.

Critical Job Elements:

  1. Perform the administration and maintenance of Oracle databases located locally keeping servers updated and operational 100% of the time.
  2. Build and test data migration strategies in conjunction with commercial off-the-shelf software upgrades with no more than ten problem reports per software release (PRs).
  3. Perform design and development activities for future Oracle databases within the scheduled timeframe.
  4. Assist developers with integrating and retrieving data from the database into the application by creating specialized functions, procedures, and views with no more than thirty PRs per release .
  5. Provide technical advice in the proper analysis, testing, implementations, and maintenance of Oracle databases releated to software applications 100% of the time.
  6. Assist customer in defining requirements as needed for current and future software modifications as required.

  1. Work with customers to formulate and define improved processes that benefit our customer and the Transportation Section.
  2. Interact with other team members to accomplish task-related activites in a professional manner that reflects a positive image.
  3. Document the status of the area of responsibility; identifiy issues and highlight concerns and risks.
  4. Special projects as assigned.
