Volt is seeking a Design Engineer to work onsite at our client’s facility in Mossville, IL.  This is a contingent position expected to last 12 months.  Within this role, you will utilize CAD software (i.e. 3D modeling) to design core engine architecture and engine components.  Typical design components include:  cylinder heads, cylinder block, crankshafts, connecting rods, valve mechanisms and pistons.  The division also has several test benches for fuel injection systems, friction and wear testing, etc.  At times, design of adapters and or upgrades of these benches may be required.

In addition, you will:

  • Assist in the development of new diesel, gas and dual fuel engine concepts, as well as in the integration of new engine components and subsystems into novel power system (including hybrid) solutions
  • Assist in the procurement of components and manage Bills of Materials for key demonstration engine and power systems in the department
  • Use software like PTC Creo for design and preliminary mechanical analyses
  • Communicate with project leads on specific tasks and timelines
  • Order and track parts and components for demonstration engines and engine systems

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 years of actual related work experience, class projects will not count
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, preferably PTC Creo
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others - designers, lead engineers, analysis and simulation engineers, purchasing representatives and external suppliers
  • Ability to ask the right questions to realize key goals being sought in the engine/engine component design
  • Ability to communicate these designs

A strong candidate will also have:

  • Knowledge of mechanical, dynamic or computational fluid dynamic analysis methods
  • Strong mechanical design skills
