Volt is currently seeking a Design Engineer.

Candidate Responsibilities

Summary: Current production support design engineer for heavy structural systems on Wheel Tractor-Scrapers. Using PTC Creo, create new designs and modify existing designs to resolve issues with existing designs, which can include issues arising from products in field, manufacturing, suppliers, and/or cost reduction opportunities. Responsible for engineering designs from concept through detailed design to design release. Collaborates with the extended value chain to ensure timely implementation of high quality designs.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities: Design welded steel structures for wheel tractor-scrapers by using PTC Creo to create large assembly models with many components. Steel plate material thicknesses range from 6 to >75mm. Some steel casting design may be involved. Steel plates will usually be laser cut and sometimes formed before being welded together into large fabricated structures. The engineering disciplines applicable include metallurgy, metal forming, weld engineering, machine design, strength of materials, and structural life analysis. After completing designs, the position is responsible to oversee the process of creating the related detailed drawings and releasing the drawings for production implementation.

Typical Day

Use PTC Creo and Pro/Sheetmetal to design structural systems. Create detailing instructions and releasing notices. Respond to engineering issues coming from manufacturing. Complete designs and help implement changes into production. In an office setting, with occasional visits to the shop. Hours are flexible. Core hours are 10:00am-2:00pm.

Education Requirements:

B.S. Engineering or closely related degree required. Mechanical engineering or agricultural engineering degree preferred.

Technical Skills

Five to seven years of engineering experience desired. Recent minimum of six months of experience with PTC Creo required. Design and effective management of large assemblies of many parts in PTC Creo, Experience using Creo Simulate, TeamCenter, GEC, and BNU is a plus. Differentiating Factor: CAT experience or Will consider a new or recent engineering graduate who has a strong interest in the location, good internship experience, and good Creo skills.
