  • The Director of Environmental Health and Safety, works to prevent and eliminate injury and illness to employees and helps comply with all safety laws.
  • The manager will inspect the workplace and minimize or eliminate hazards from any unsafe process, such as incorrect working methods and materials and potentially toxic chemicals.
  • Responsible for inspecting and evaluating the environment, equipment, and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with all government safety regulations and industry standards.
  • The key goal is to protect the employees, customers and the environment. The Director should identify potentially hazardous biological, chemical and radiological materials and collect samples of them for analysis.
  • Leads compliance reviews, general risk assessments, and other safety assessments to support Health, Safety and Environmental management.
  • Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation. Lead compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Prepare applicable EHS reports as necessary.
  • Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.
  • Lead the development and presentation of relevant EHS training. Observe EHS regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, correct obvious hazards immediately or report them to the proper personnel.
  • Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance. Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies. 


Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, or a related scientific field, such as biology, chemistry. 

Along with education and training, prospective Directors  in EH&S also need to have 7-10 years of relevant experience in the field, Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems, tools, equipment, codes and safety procedures typically found in a large-scale recycling and/or production environment.

Familiarity with computer software programs, such as the Microsoft Office Suite, project planning tools, and CAD (computer-aided design) is an advantage. Technical writing a plus.

The ability to troubleshoot problems and to creatively seek solutions that meet all laws and local codes is an important responsibility of the role. A familiarity with hazardous classifications, codes, and regulations.

Bilingual – the ability to communicate clearly in Spanish a plus.
