Job Description

We have a excellent opportunity for a Director of Sales for our domestic and international sales team with a very unique company. We are innovative, creative and find solutions for life science research and education. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the sales success of a global sales team and re-seller network. You will be responsible for developing sales strategies that will grow the business and hit company sales targets. Your leadership and experience will direct, coach, and motivate regional sales managers and ensure that they understand and execute the sales plan.

The position is based in beautiful Santa Barbara, travel is required. The company has direct sales personnel located in Europe and Asia. It also has an extensive re-seller network that covers most developed parts of the globe. The sales director is responsible for maximizing the success of both direct and indirect sales channels.

The individual will be familiar with business to business and/or academic sales of capital equipment. They will have a working knowledge of academic funding cycles and funding institutions. A background in instrumentation or life science sales will help. As will a degree or higher degree in the life sciences or biomedical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Hitting company sales targets

  • Establish and implement sales strategy

  • Set pricing strategy.

  • Motivate and coach sales managers

  • Ensure managers are motivating their teams

  • Develop strategies for increasing re-seller performance

  • Work closely with Marketing to ensure messaging is reaching the target and enough quality leads are being generated

  • Work with engineering to provide feedback and information about the market

  • Create regular sales reports that contain pipeline information and progress towards goals

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in life sciences or biomedical engineering

  • Proven sales executive experience, meeting or exceeding targets

  • Previous experience as a sales executive, sales manager or sales and marketing director

  • Must be familiar with business to business and/or academic sales of capital equipment.

  • Have a working knowledge of academic funding cycles and funding institutions.

  • A background in instrumentation or life science sales will help. As will a degree or higher degree in the life sciences or biomedical engineering

  • Ability to communicate, present and influence all levels of the organization

  • Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close

  • Track record of capital equipment sales

  • Proven ability to position products against competitors

  • Demonstrable experience as head of sales, developing customer-focused, differentiated and achievable solutions

  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Knowledge of academic sales

  • Previous sales experience of complex, technical, instrumentation or devices

  • Knowledge of Sage, ERP, Infor CRM, AcqKnowledge, MatLab

  • Must reside in California, No Relocation
