EHS Manager (Direct) $85-95k (DOE)

Volt has partnered with a growing manufacturing company in search of an EHS Manager! In this role, you will establish and promotes the maintenance of a safe, accident free, and healthy work environment. You will also lead the company in meeting environmental, health and safety requirements set by regulations and customers. You will also be responsible for managing the maintenance of building infrastructure and grounds.


  • Formulate general environmental and safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with local, county, state, and federal agency rules and regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Minnesota Environmental Protection Agency (MNEPA) and others.  Maintain related compliance records and documentation.
  • Consult with all departments on design and use of equipment, fire prevention and safety programs.
  • Inspect and tour organization facilities to detect existing or potential environmental, health or safety hazards, and leads corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Keep managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances.
  • Responsible for hazardous waste compliance and removal.
  • Conduct machine and equipment inspections as well as job hazard analysis to facilitate the identification of risk and the adoption of best mitigation methods, procedures or equipment.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries and prepare material and evidence for organizations use in hearings, legal actions, and insurance investigations.
  • Devise, supervise, and coordinate training programs which will increase proficiency in safe practices and promotes safety consciousness.
  • Represent the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Responsible for ISO140001 compliance and certification.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Plant managers to sustain the Integrated Management System in a manner that drives root cause identification, effective corrective actions and prevents future nonconformance. Champion the IMS as the means identify opportunity for continuous improvement and work to assure buy-in across the organization.
  • Participate in periodic IMS Steering Committee meetings and assist Quality Manager in the Management Review process.
  • Identify routine facility and building systems equipment preventative maintenance requirements and schedules. Assure timely repair and replacement as needed.
  • Assure the delivery of training to promote employee awareness of their role with the IMS, to instill the necessary job-related competencies and to provide development opportunity.
  • Develop detailed operating budgets for each fiscal year and assure adherence to the approved operating budget. 
  • Manage EHSF staff schedule and completion of assigned tasks including preventive maintenance, special project oversight and completion, EHS compliance.
  • Project management of assigned facilities construction projects from local authority approval to contractor completion and code official inspection.
  • Motivate and develop staff to meet the current and future needs of the department and the company while fostering teamwork and creating a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Has direct reports and performs a range of managerial responsibilities including but not limited to: establishing goals, coaching and training direct reports, interviewing, staffing decisions, planning, assigning and directing work, resolving problems, and managing performance.
  • Lead safety committee meetings, provide direction to group and publish meeting minutes.

Employees will comply with the company Integrated Management System (IMS) procedures and work instructions.  Employees will perform work in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner according to company policy.


  • Bachelor’s Degree specializing in EHS and 5+ years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA and EPA laws.
  • Prefer at least 3 years in a manufacturing environment with strong leadership responsibilities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with discipline to a detail orientation balanced with the ability to keep focused on the big picture.
  • Strong organization skills, ability to prioritize and plan projects and juggle resources to meet the demands.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with employees at all levels in the organization.
  • <5% domestic and/or international travel to meet customers, suppliers or in support of other locations.
