Volt is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer.


Candidate Responsibilities

Interpret customer specifications and drawings and have in-depth dealer/consultant interaction. Present clear detailed designs for production engineers to execute. Experience in the design of low and medium voltage switchgear that control multiple generators which parallel to one or more utilities. Manage overlapping requirements of multiple projects in order to meet milestones. Basic understanding of protective relays, their functions and proper applications. Basic understanding of communications networks and protocols. Have a detailed understanding of NEC, UL, ANSI and other standards. Be familiar with Caterpillar and other types of gensets including controls and limitations. Research new part requirements, read manuals and contact vendors to ensure successful implementation.

Typical Day

Review specifications, proposals, estimates and other contract documents to develop submittal packages consisting of drawings. Create first pass for project drawing sets. Create preliminary designs for switchgear and generator control systems. Finalize power envelope designs for medium and low voltage systems. Design protective relay schemes for switchgear. Support inside and outside sales team members with technical solutions and guidance. Support production engineers for successful transition from submittals to production. Work with consultants and customers to gain production approval on submittal packages.

Education Requirement

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering(BSEE) or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology with minimum of two to four years equivalent work experience preferred.

Technical Skills
Experience in the design of low and medium voltage switchgear that control multiple generators which parallel to one or more utilities. Have an understanding of protective relays, their functions and proper applications. Have a basic understanding of communications networks and protocols. Have a detailed understanding of NEC, UL, ANSI and other standards. Familiar with Caterpillar and other types of gensets including controls and limitations. Computer proficient including Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook.
