Job Description

Our client is seeking a Drafter at their Charleston, SC location.  The drafter will need to have experience with electrical drafting and understand electrical drawings and schematics.

Position Summary:

Providing CAD and technical assistance as needed to the project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Designer I position works under occasional supervision to prepare finished drawings from very complex sketches, notes, layouts, details, and verbal instruction.  Responsibilities include:

I.     Mechanical Designer I

        •      Drafting of mechanical equipment from a work point diagram.

        •      Drafting of drive assemblies.

        •      Able generate P&IDs from sketches.

        •      Layout of simple steel arrangements.

II.    Electrical Designer I

        •      General understanding of major NEC issues.

        •      Able to assemble electrical drawings from rough sketches.

        •      Drafting of electrical components on all types of electrical drawings.

        •      Able to identify all major equipment component centers of project facility.

        •      Understands sequence of operations of major component centers and can select appropriate electrical components to control system properly.

III.   Mechanical & Electrical Designer I

        •      Attend each monthly engineering staff meeting.

        •      The Designer I will be a team player, will maintain a cordial and cooperative attitude in the department and in the company and perform all other related work, as assigned or as apparent.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills and abilities)

Meets all requirements of CAD Technician II and can effectively perform all duties of that position.

•      Strong computer and AutoCAD skills.

•      Understands use of generic details and their applications.

•      Accuracy, quality, completeness, and adherence to the schedule can be independently maintained.

•      Willing to work overtime on an as needed basis.

Work Environment

  • Job will generally be working in the Charleston, SC office.  May be require to travel to Client’s plants, production facility or industrial/construction job sites.
  • Employee will be required to utilize and wear personal safety equipment. 
  • Position is administered in an extremely fluid, fast paced fashion with multiple high-priority demands

Physical Demands

  • Travel Frequency (10%)
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Climbing platform access ladders to access remote plant equipment
  • Working on high equipment access platforms with open grate flooring
  • Coping with higher temperature plant environments
  • Work in high noise environments
  • Work in an external environment based on plant location.
  • Work around moving equipment
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands or finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • The employee is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb ladders or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl all while wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 30-40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move (with additional help) up to 60-75 pounds (lifts over 40 pounds are two person lifts). 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
