Job Description

Electrical Engineering Manager

Volt is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineering Manager to join a small team to design and test advanced electronics for drilling equipment.  This is a direct hire position. We are always using state-of-the-art designs and cutting-edge technology in our products.  In this role, the individual must be familiar with digital and analog electronics and be able to translate business requirements into these system-level designs for both individual contribution work and teamwork.  Further, you must be able to select components, design schematics, layout boards, and help bring up and debug circuits in the lab with the team. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, firmware developers, quality, production as well as numerous 3rd party vendors, suppliers and manufacturers.


  • Assume responsibility for circuit design, from requirements through production, and post-production support
  • Architect system-level designs and provide implementation leadership and mentorship to team members
  • Design battery-operated systems which make heavy use of multiple micro-controllers using a variety of peripherals and sensors
  • Design digital, analog, or other subsystems or circuits for new products
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to package electronics in industrial design-driven enclosures
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to transition designs into production
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to rapidly iterate prototypes for next-generation product concepts
  • Ability to manage in-house PCB build process
  • Ability to help occasionally analyze issues with fielded products
  • Collaborate with compliance team and external labs to drive new products through certification process
  • Establish partnerships and relationships with suppliers and vendors
  • Translate between engineering and business requirements
  • Set context and direction for a lightweight electrical engineering team and remove roadblocks
  • Conduct monthly 1-on-1s with team-members and conduct annual performance reviews


  • 7 – 10+ years’ experience in design, testing and validation
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Expertise in blocker and interference mitigation techniques in design of PCBs
  • Experience with design of board level components including Microstrip Lines, Coplanar Waveguides, Directional Couplers, etc.
  • Strong experience with design, architecture, and layout of low frequency front ends on PCBs
  • Knowledge of FCC and/or other certification processes
  • Proficiency with design and layout software such as Altium
  • Experience with design, simulation and testing of antennas
  • EMI/RFI design and testing experience
  • Digital and analog product design experience – Schematic Level, PCB, and Unit
  • Expertise evaluating and debugging hardware using engineering laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, etc.)
  • RF design experience is a bonus
  • Possess high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills (written and verbal)
