Embedded Firmware Test Automation Engineer - 6 mo contract, Lisle, IL

Volt Workforce Solutions is seeking a dynamic and proactive Embedded Firmware Test Automation Engineer to support our Client with their embedded firmware design team and develop embedded firmware test automation tools. The role will work closely with the software / firmware development and validation teams to make recommendations and designing tools for improvement of embedded firmware testing and validation.


  • Developing and maintaining automation test scripts and designing frameworks that execute the verification and validation of embedded software products such as Ethernet Switches, Gateways, etc,
  • Developing & documenting the automated test tools developed for embedded firmware validation testing.
  • Writing test cases for verification and validation of embedded software products such as Ethernet Switches, Gateways, etc.
  • Execution of automated and manual test cases
  • Consistently and clearly communicating with developers, project managers, and other team members.
  • Optimizing automated and manual test cases by getting involved with product design and firmware validation teams at concept stages.
  • Analyzing, documenting, and communicating test results


  • 5+ years automated and manual software testing
  • Experience with testing Ethernet products (switches, gateways. Etc…) is beneficial
  • Software / Firmware testing using multiple device network setups – IE: System Level Testing
  • Experience using test automation tools
  • Experience with scripting languages (Visual Studio (C#, VB), VBScript, C++, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge of management and defect tracking tools (JIRA, Bugzilla, etc…)
  • Experience using Xena Networks, Ixia, Spirent, or equivalent ethernet test equipment is beneficial but not required
  • Organization skills and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects, with a high standard of quality
  • Analytical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to mentor junior coworkers


  •  A Bachelor's degree or Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other related technical degree, plus 5 years of software test scripting
  • Experience with firmware / software testing and validation using Ethernet devices (Switches, Gateways, etc…)
  • Experience in system integration and validation is a plus
